Zdeněk Manina je absolventem VŠUP v Praze, kde studoval v ateliéru keramika a porcelán. Po studiích působil jako designér DUV (Družstvo umělecké výroby) Keramo Praha, v devadesátých letech pak jako odborný asistent ateliéru Keramika a porcelán, výuka prostorové tvorby na UJEP v Ústí nad Labem, mezi lety 2003–2005 v ateliéru keramika a porcelán na VŠUP v Praze. Od roku 2008 vyučuje kreslení perspektivy pro obor dokumentace památek na FF UJEP v Ústí nad Labem.

Kávový soubor, hravě odkazující ke kubistickému tvarosloví keramických nádob podle návrhů členů skupiny Artěl a černobílou glazurou k vídeňské secesi, je v díle Zdeňka Maniny zcela ojedinělý. Autor je svým zaměřením především sochař, v jeho díle dominují velkoryse modelované maskulinní figury z keramické hmoty, pálené hlíny, kameniny, ale také z laminátu či bronzu, které často řadí do vícečetných seskupení. Zkoumá hranice svobody, reflektuje společenské i soukromé zvyky a rituály. Kromě soch je autorem malířských děl a kreseb. /// 

Zdeněk Manina is a graduate of the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, where he studied at the Ceramics and Porcelain Studio. After his studies, he worked as a designer at DUV (Cooperative of Artistic Production) Keramo Prague, in the 1990s as an assistant teacher at the Ceramics and Porcelain Studio, teaching spatial design at the Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem, and between 2003 and 2005 at the Ceramics and Porcelain Studio at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. Since 2008 he has been teaching perspective drawing for the documentation of monuments at the Faculty of Arts at the Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem.

The coffee set, playfully referring to the cubist morphology of ceramic vessels designed by members of the Artěl group and to the Vienna Secession by its black and white glaze, is quite unique in the work of Zdeněk Manina. Primarily a sculptor in his focus, his work is dominated by generously modelled masculine figures in ceramic, fired clay and earthenware, as well as laminate or bronze, which he often assembles in multiple groupings. He explores the limits of freedom, reflecting on social and private customs and rituals. In addition to his sculptures, he makes paintings and drawings.
